A disoriented DoorDash driver accessed the tarmac at O’Hare International Airport over the weekend.
The driver was eventually intercepted by security near a United Airlines aircraft at Gate C16.
This incident is currently under investigation, but the driver was released without any charges.
Last year, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport ranked among the top ten busiest airports globally, handling 776,036 “aircraft movements,” making it second only to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. However, the Windy City hub recently experienced a significant security breach.
According to CBS Chicago, a lost DoorDash driver successfully navigated through secured areas and entered the airport premises. Once inside, he allegedly “drove miles along the interior and restricted roads at O’Hare.”

The vehicle was reportedly seen around noon on Saturday. Security was alerted, and the driver was halted on the tarmac near a plane at Gate C16.
While it is alarming that an unauthorized driver and vehicle were able to approach a plane, authorities reportedly concluded that the 36-year-old man was genuinely lost and unintentionally drove into a secure area. Due to this apparent mistake, the driver was not charged or cited.
It is clear that many questions arise from this situation, and those involved seem to be maintaining a low profile. This likely accounts for their relative silence, although a follow-up report from the station indicates that about 16 minutes elapsed from the time the vehicle entered the restricted area until the police were notified.
In a statement, the Chicago Department of Aviation informed the station that “there were no operational disruptions or safety incidents” as a result of the occurrence. However, the outcome could have been far more severe had it not been for the lost DoorDash driver.
