At last, a nearly record-breaking auction that truly deserves it. The one-of-19 Shelby-themed Dodge Viper sold for almost $200,000, making it one of the priciest Vipers ever.

Carroll Shelby is synonymous with high performance. Therefore, a vehicle bearing his name is either exceptional or a misstep. Fortunately, it’s the former in the case of the “Carroll Shelby Limited Edition” Viper, a remarkable collaboration between Shelby and Fitzgerald Motorsports. Out of the 19 produced, only two came with a white-striped blue finish. One of those rare blue beauties was sold through Hagerty Marketplace for $197,950, which includes the buyer's premium.

That amount is noteworthy, but it doesn't set a record for Dodge Viper sales. However, it’s exceedingly close. According to Hagerty, the title of the most expensive Viper belongs to a 1998 Viper GTS GT2 Championship Edition. This model, sold via Bring a Trailer, fetched a final price of $198,000, including the $5,000 buyer’s fee.

Although the GT2 Championship Edition is not as rare as the Shelby, it remains a limited production vehicle. The BaT example was the 90th of 100 made and had merely 1,900 miles on the odometer.

According to the Hagerty Valuation Tool, a standard 1996 GTS in "concours" condition is valued at $127,000. Given the exclusivity of both models, reaching the $200K mark is not unrealistic. In fact, these auctions indicate that the Viper—specifically those well-maintained—can spark bidding wars and achieve impressive six-figure sales.
