A few years ago, the used-car market was so competitive that it seemed like flipping a Mitsubishi Mirage for a profit was possible. Fast forward to now, and we’re beginning to witness some values for certain enthusiast models returning to reality. For instance, this 2024 Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition that recently sold on Bring a Trailer for $18,000 less than its original price. Even more impressively, it has only clocked 221 miles.

The challenging post-pandemic used car market impacted all vehicle types, particularly high-performance pickups. Americans developed a strong appetite for these trucks, leading to sky-high prices. It became common to see trucks selling for more than their sticker price, with low-production, special edition models experiencing the most significant markups. During that time, this Final Edition TRX could have fetched well beyond its $125,215 MSRP. However, last week, someone managed to purchase it for a smooth $107,000.

While that’s still a considerable sum for a Ram, the new owner essentially acquired a nearly-new truck at an $18,000 discount. With the odometer reading just 221 miles, labeling this TRX as “used” feels misleading, despite it technically being so. The BaT seller—another dealer—bought the truck new and basically left it untouched. The seats and glovebox even still have their original tags.

What distinguishes the Final Edition? Stellantis announced that 2024 would mark the final year for the Ram TRX and its 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8, as it plans to replace the model with the straight-six-equipped Ram RHO. For now, the 702-horsepower TRX remains the brand's last V8 super truck, although there are rumors of potential changes in plans. Dodge CEO Matt McAlear recently indicated to us that “V8s are no longer a bad word around the company” when we inquired about the longevity of the engine in the Durango. If the Charger reintroduces its Hemi, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Ram 1500 following suit, if not next in line.

Returning to this unexpectedly discounted TRX, it feels strange to label a six-figure truck as an example of nature healing, especially since it typically starts as a $40,000 workhorse with steel wheels and cloth seats. But considering the dramatic shift in price perceptions over the past few years, there is a glimmer of hope, at least regarding prices for fun trucks. Just imagine if this trend continues: we could see reasonably priced sports cars at auction by 2075.
