The cyclist collided with a DeLorean parked in a bike lane, resulting in significant damage.

Distraction seems to be the culprit, as the cyclist doesn't slow down prior to the crash.

This incident underscores the risks that distractions pose to both cyclists and motorists on the road.

Research indicates that more than half of road users look at their phones while driving. Distraction has become a major problem on public streets today, impacting not just drivers but cyclists as well, and this video illustrates that point. It’s unfortunate that the cyclist chose to hit a classic DeLorean.

The location of the incident remains uncertain, but based on the license plates and signs in the Reddit video, it appears to be in Scandinavia. What is evident is that a DeLorean is parked on the side of the road with a bike lane separating it from the main thoroughfare. It’s unclear why the vehicle is stopped with its doors wide open.

What stands out is that a cyclist comes into view moments after the video begins and does not decelerate before crashing hard into the back of the car. Fortunately, the DeLorean seems to have sustained minimal damage from the collision. However, the cyclist’s bike, an older Colnago that looks partially made of carbon fiber, didn’t fare as well, with the head-tube snapping off along with the front wheel, causing the rider to fall.

Honestly, the only scenario that could make this seem reasonable is if the DeLorean had suddenly appeared right before the impact, perhaps with flames around the tires and time machine accessories. Unfortunately, that’s not what occurred.

As an enthusiastic cyclist and car enthusiast who has had the opportunity to review a DeLorean, I feel bad for everyone involved. No cyclist I’ve known would intentionally do what happened here. Even if they felt negatively about a car blocking a bike lane—which doesn’t seem to be the situation—it's unlikely. Most cyclists, in my experience, wouldn’t risk damaging their bike or injuring themselves.

On the other hand, the reason the DeLorean owner was parked there in the first place is unknown. It’s possible the vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues, adding frustration to an already unfortunate situation. The cyclist didn’t take time to consider this; they reacted out of fear or pain, which is somewhat understandable but not very courteous.
