A Florida man operating a dump truck was oblivious to the fact that the truck bed was raised. Thankfully, a nearby overpass provided a wake-up call.

While driving north on Florida State Road 285, a 54-year-old man from Crestview encountered a shocking moment. Unaware that the dump bed of his truck was elevated, he hit the underside of the Interstate 10 overpass while attempting to pass underneath it.

As reported by WALA Fox 10, the collision caused the truck bed to entirely detach from the frame. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph, but it likely doesn’t take much speed to damage something exceeding the vehicle's height.

In an ironic display, the truck bed became lodged and upright in the left lane of the two northbound lanes. A Florida Highway Patrol incident report indicated that the dislodged truck bed remained stuck for “a short while,” according to WKRG News 5.

The incident took place at 2:20 a.m. on Friday. Fortunately, neither the driver nor his passenger sustained injuries, making them quite lucky. A similar event last year (also in Florida) led to serious injuries for the driver involved. CDL Life reported that the dump truck veered off the highway and crashed into a wooded area, with debris striking another vehicle behind it, though the driver was unharmed.
