Car wraps—especially high-quality ones—require a considerable amount of time. Even with a straightforward vehicle like a Tesla Cybertruck or a Volkswagen ID.Buzz, while the application process may be simpler, achieving an aesthetically pleasing look is not guaranteed. The situation becomes even more complex with the aerodynamic contours of a race car. Genesis recently shared an ASMR video showcasing the team applying the racing livery to their Le Mans hypercar, providing an intriguing behind-the-scenes perspective.

The approximately 15-minute video presents a swift overview of both the straightforward and challenging aspects of car wrapping. Opinions vary on how long it takes to wrap an entire vehicle, with estimates ranging from several hours to several days, but a general agreement seems to be around two to three days. However, Genesis' condensed timeline highlights plenty of vinyl excitement.

The process begins with tape. Similar to how one would tape off edges before painting a wall for guidance and protection, Genesis’ design chief Luc Donckerwolke is shown applying and adjusting tape strips on the cockpit glass. Since wraps are applied in sections, each piece must be flawless.

From the meticulous preparation of thoroughly cleaning every airflow vent of dust and laying out the pre-cut sections for visual verification to the application involving precision cutting, heating, stretching, and smoothing out the vinyl, every detail is meticulously documented.

The livery for the Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 Hypercar is not a single pre-printed sheet but consists of several overlays for the team name, Korean-inspired characters, and color gradients.

The final product is impressive, but the video fails to fully capture the vibrant appearance of the GMR hypercar. Fortunately, we only have to wait until next year to see this latest endurance racer in action on the grid.
