Later this summer, Lia Block will have the opportunity to drive a machine unlike any other. The Formula 1 Academy star is scheduled to pilot Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14B during this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, which marks the 75th anniversary of Formula 1. Specifically, she will be behind the wheel of the car that Mansell famously drove to secure the F1 championship in 1992.
Block, the daughter of the late racing driver and YouTube icon Ken Block, shared several photos of the FW14B seat fitting process on her Instagram account on Wednesday evening.
“I think I was [in] shock while doing this. My first seat fit in the FW14B, Nigel Mansell’s championship-winning car. I’m so honored to be driving this car at @fosgoodwood 2025,” she wrote in the caption.
At just 18 years old, Block has had the chance to race and drive numerous high-performance vehicles, including the renowned 1,400-horsepower Mustang “Hoonicorn,” as well as various rally cars where she honed her driving skills like her father. In 2023, she participated in the now-defunct Extreme E off-road championship, and the following year, she tested Keke Rosberg’s Williams FW08 F1 car. Since then, Block has been competing in the F1 Academy series as a driver for the Williams Racing Academy.
That said, the FW14B promises to be a completely different challenge, given its incredible power-to-weight ratio and aerodynamic features. Even with her prior brief experience in the FW08, she will likely find it quite challenging. Although the Duke of Richmond’s driveway isn't the ideal setting to drive a vintage F1 car, it will undoubtedly be a remarkable experience for Block and everyone in attendance.
“I started going to Goodwood when I was really young with my dad, who used to participate in the hillclimb frequently,” Block stated in a press release. “Last year was a huge milestone for me when I got to drive an F1 car up the hill. It was a dream come true, and Goodwood holds a special place in my heart because so many people from various motorsport backgrounds come together to celebrate the sport. This year is going to be an iconic experience for me in an iconic car—I can't wait!”
The second-generation racer will share driving responsibilities with team principal James Vowles and fellow racing star Jamie Chadwick.
