This creation prompts us to ponder whether Toyota overlooked an opportunity by not offering a Supra convertible.
The front of a Supra has been integrated onto the body of a BMW Z4, and surprisingly, the Toyota coupe's design complements the Z4’s shape well.
For years, fans have speculated about the possibility of Toyota launching a convertible variant of the A90 Supra, which is known to be based on the BMW Z4 roadster. Even back in late 2018, Tetsuya Tada, who was Toyota’s chief engineer at the time, suggested that the company was contemplating it. However, despite the ongoing speculation, Toyota never followed through. Until now, when someone else has taken it upon themselves to make it a reality.
Since Toyota isn't introducing a convertible Supra, a resourceful enthusiast in Japan appears to have stepped in. Given that the Supra shares its development with the BMW Z4, which happens to be a convertible, this enterprising individual decided to swap the front end of the Z4 with that of a Supra, resulting in an unexpectedly attractive outcome.
While we haven't encountered any images depicting the process of replacing the Z4’s front end with that of the Supra, it's clear it would have required considerable effort. Although the cars have the same foundation, they have distinct looks. The original bumper, headlights, quarter panels, and clamshell-style hood of the Z4 have been removed and replaced with the corresponding components from the Supra.
Remarkably, these parts align well with the rest of the Z4’s body. We've often thought the Z4 outshines its Toyota counterpart, especially due to its less complicated side design. It's particularly impressive how the edge of the Toyota’s clamshell is perfectly aligned with the creases running along the Z4’s doors and extending back to the tips of the taillights.
Unfortunately, the Toyota Supra is nearing the end of its production run. Earlier this year, the company revealed separate Final Edition versions of the car for Japan, Europe, and another for the U.S. The models in Europe and Japan featured an upgraded 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 429 hp and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm), while the American versions maintain the familiar specifications of 382 hp and 368 lb-ft (499 Nm) from the same engine.
