Chrysler is facing significant challenges, but there is optimism for the future.
The results of Stellantis' recent Drive for Design Contest have been revealed.
Ryan Panizzoli's Chrysler Quantum secured first place, earning him an internship with Ram.
Felix Bucaro and Owen Bronson were also recognized for their designs, the Airstream and Chrysler 600, respectively.
Earlier this year, Stellantis launched its Drive for Design Contest, encouraging high school students to imagine their ideal Chrysler vehicle. The turnout was surprisingly low, with fewer than 30 eligible students participating. However, the winners have now been announced.
Top honors were awarded to 11th grader Ryan Panizzoli from Michigan, who conceptualized the Chrysler Quantum, described as an embodiment of innovation and refined design. Drawing inspiration from 1930s luxury cars, it features a lengthy hood and a floating roof. Panizzoli also proposed that the vehicle would utilize quantum computing and incorporate optic fibers into its structure.
As the first-place winner, Panizzoli will have the opportunity to intern at the Ram design studio over the summer. He will also receive an Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, along with an invitation to serve as a student judge at the EyesOn Design car show in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
11th grader Felix Bucaro from Wisconsin took home the second place with his advanced Airstream design. This vehicle resembles a fighter jet, boasting a retractable canopy, a streamlined body, and a central driver's seat with two rear passenger seats. It also features airplane-inspired steering and blade-like taillights.
Owen Bronson, also in 11th grade from Michigan, secured third place with his Chrysler 600, a nod to the 100th anniversary of the Chrysler Six. This futuristic sports car is not extensively detailed but evokes the 2005 Firepower concept.
Although Bucaro and Bronson did not win internships, they will each receive an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, as well as a virtual networking opportunity with the Stellantis design team. They will also be invited to judge the car show mentioned earlier, and they will be awarded scholarships to the Transportation Design summer program at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
