Mattel has launched a new brand reminiscent of Lego, called Brick Shop.
The initial offering includes seven kits that showcase realistic-looking cars.
Each kit contains a die-cast model along with bricks to construct a scale model of the car.
Mattel is challenging the brick-building market with their new Brick Shop brand, bringing Hot Wheels along as a partner. The initial lineup features seven cars that are designed to compete strongly with Lego.
The Brick Shop collection aims to provide fans with a "new way to build, customize, and collect," featuring vehicles with "accurate details and proportions." Additionally, owners will have customization options with real metal parts, allowing fans and collectors to replicate and personalize their favorite Hot Wheels vehicles.

Given the link to Hot Wheels, the kits also come with a 1:64 scale die-cast model, which is a nice addition that fans will likely commend.
The sets are categorized into Speed, Elite, and Premium tiers, with varying prices for each. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL belongs to the top-of-the-line Premium series, priced at $119.99. While that is pricey, buyers will receive a 1:12 scale gullwing coupe featuring functional doors, a metal Mercedes emblem, and detailed interior finishes.
The mid-tier Elite Series is priced at $49.99 and includes a classic Corvette Grand Sport, a 1990 Acura/Honda NSX, and a surf-themed 1962 Chevrolet Pickup. These models, in 1:16 scale, offer additional parts, metal wheel covers, and licensed decals. Notably, the NSX includes pop-up headlights and functional steering.
Finally, the entry-level Speed Series features three sets in 1:32 scale, each priced at $19.99. The options include the Maserati MC20, Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar, and a customized 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
The Brick Shop collection will hit stores this summer, and select retailers are currently open for pre-orders. Mattel’s Roberto Stanichi commented that the collection "provides what car enthusiasts have been seeking: vehicles that can be built while retaining true authenticity." He noted that their "design team carefully crafted these vehicles in brick form while maintaining the original features, including actual metal parts and an exclusive die-cast model, allowing fans new ways to collect, build, and play."
What are your thoughts; are these sets essential, or just another fleeting attempt by Hot Wheels to profit from our passion for cars?
