The concept for the revived classic stemmed from Hans-Jürgen Abt's personal project and received an enthusiastic reaction from clients.
ABT has introduced an enhanced version of the Audi Ur-Quattro from the 1980s.
This model features a Sport Quattro body kit and a contemporary five-cylinder engine.
Production is limited to 30 units, all of which have already been sold.
ABT is well-versed in modifying VW Group vehicles, but its latest offering takes a notable trip back to the 1980s. The tuner has just presented a limited-production variant of the Audi Ur-Quattro, which is not a standard retro remake. The vehicle boasts a much more powerful five-cylinder engine and visual changes inspired by the iconic Audi Sport Quattro.
The unveiling occurred at ABT's "Friends of ABT" event in Germany, where 25 units were sold within just three hours. The demand was so high that ABT increased the production to 30 units to meet customer needs.
Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT Group, expressed the nostalgic significance of the Ur-Quattro for him. Upon taking over the tuning business from his father, he inherited the car and promptly began modifying it, including adding flared fenders, magnesium alloy wheels, and components from the Sport Quattro like the grille and headlights.
The limited-production Ur-Quattro adheres to the same concept. Although it doesn't share the short wheelbase of the Sport Quattro, the revised front end gives it a remarkably similar appearance to the rare homologation model. For reference, Audi produced 11,452 Ur-Quattros between 1980 and 1991, compared to just 214 units of the Sport Quattro, with only 164 being road-legal.
The body kit is made from Kevlar and carbon fiber. Along with the wide fenders and new bumpers, it features a vented hood and a large rear wing. Inside, there are bucket seats, and interestingly, an “invisible” roll cage. Owners will have the opportunity to customize the interior through ABT’s Individual Programme, ensuring that no two cars are alike.
Performance Upgrades
Under the hood, this restomod houses a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine from a modern Audi RS model, likely sourced from the RS3 or TT RS. The engine has been modified to produce a robust 523 horsepower (390 kW / 530 PS), which is almost three times the output of the original Ur-Quattro's 197 hp (147 kW / 200 PS). This represents a considerable increase over the 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) of the Sport Quattro, signifying a major enhancement in performance.
To manage the increased power, ABT has fitted the Ur-Quattro with anti-lock brakes, although details regarding suspension upgrades have not been disclosed. They did mention that each of the 30 units will feature a unique chassis, ensuring a tailor-made feel for every car. Additionally, it can be registered as a classic vehicle in Germany, with special H license plates.
While ABT hasn't revealed the pricing, those familiar with these revived classics know they are typically not inexpensive. On a positive note, ABT may have further projects in development. Hans-Jürgen Abt indicated that the overwhelmingly favorable customer feedback on the Ur-Quattro restomod has inspired the team to consider exploring additional ideas. So, stay tuned for more classic Audis with a modern flair.
