2026 Jeep Compass Leak Reveals Recon-Inspired Design, and That’s Exciting

Photos allegedly showcasing the next-generation Jeep Compass surfaced online this week, providing us with a first glimpse of the brand's forthcoming compact SUV. This robust, sleeker design encompasses all the elements we expected, from the ample lower-body cladding to the seemingly exaggerated fender arches. It has a faint resemblance to the upcoming Jeep Recon. Based on recent spy images, we feel confident that these photos are genuine.

We discovered these exterior renderings in a YouTube video by AutoYa, but the Portuguese-language site QuatroRodas features the same images along with additional ones, including a view of the Compass’ updated interior, which appears to be a notable improvement. The textured, multi-tone dashboard stands out in that image, along with the sculpted front and rear seating. We are eager to find out if the materials feel as impressive as they appear.

While interior enhancements are always welcome, one main concern with the current Compass is its size. The passenger area isn't significantly smaller than competitors, but the Compass falls short in cargo space. From the proportions visible in these renderings, this might still be an issue. Of course, images can be misleading, so we will reserve our judgment until we see the vehicle in person. The car featured is intended for Europe, though there shouldn't be major changes aside from possibly the size of the rear license plate area.

Since the images were leaked, they did not include any mechanical specifications. We’re interested to see how far Jeep will go in electrifying the U.S. model. Not long ago, the company was enthusiastic about introducing electric options by the end of this year; however, given recent changes within the company, it’s uncertain where they will ultimately land. Although they pertain to the next class up, the success of hybrids like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Tucson/Kia Sportage gives Jeep every incentive to join that market. Aside from the powertrain, it's surprising that it has taken the company this long to fully update the Compass.

Moreover, the Compass symbolizes more than just the next generation of compact Jeeps. It is also the first in a new series of small Stellantis crossovers likely coming to our markets—although possibly not in the immediate future, given the federal government's shifting trade policies. Currently, the Compass shares its platform with the Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale, both of which have recently debuted here and will likely remain in the market longer before replacement, assuming another Tonale makes an appearance at all. This compact Jeep is expected to begin production towards the end of the year.
