The new truck was anticipated to arrive in 2027 and was likely to be a 2500 or 3500 REV.

Ram was developing an electric heavy-duty pickup to position above the 1500 REV. However, the model was reportedly discontinued last year, causing suppliers to struggle to recover their investments.

This situation has led to a $25 million lawsuit between Valeo and American Axle & Manufacturing.

Two years ago, Ram unveiled the 1500 REV at the 2023 New York Auto Show. Initially scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2024, its launch has now been delayed until 2026. This significant postponement coincides with Ram's efforts on an electric heavy-duty pickup, intended to be included for the 2027 model year, but that program was allegedly scrapped in 2024.

This development is intriguing since heavy-duty trucks are typically associated with diesel engines and substantial towing capacities. The latter poses a considerable challenge for electric vehicles, raising the question of who would actually desire an electric heavy-duty pickup.

It seems Ram's response was 'no one,' as the truck was quietly discontinued. We are now learning about this due to a lawsuit uncovered by Auto News.

According to the publication, Valeo is suing American Axle & Manufacturing for not covering "sunk costs" tied to the vehicle. Valeo reportedly invested millions in the development of electric motors and inverters intended for e-beams from American Axle.

In 2023, American Axle announced a contract with Stellantis, stating that the upcoming model—then a mystery—would feature "both front and rear e-Beam axles that include AAM’s integrated 3-in-1 e-Drive technology." They indicated that the vehicle would debut late in the decade, incorporating a motor, inverter, and gearbox in a single unit.

Although it would have been fascinating to see Ram's creation, the two suppliers are now embroiled in a dispute over an alleged $25 million (£18.6 / €21.9). Valeo reportedly seeks compensation for their efforts, while American Axle asserts that there was never a binding contract between the two companies.
