A few days back, Instagram presented me with a photo of an unfamiliar woman dressed in mechanic's attire, holding what appeared to be a massive Crayola crayon. Although confused, I was intrigued, so I did a bit of research and discovered that @chevy.colorado.girl had painted the driveshaft of her 2005 Colorado to resemble a crayon. I’m a fan of car modifications like this—creative, playful, and budget-friendly.
There’s much more to this truck beyond just the driveshaft, but often it's the smaller modifications that provide the most enjoyment. This Instagram carousel effectively tells the story. The driveshaft is painted like a crayon, and a good amount of effort went into the masking; I must say, the result looks pretty impressive!
I wouldn’t expect this decorative treatment to last many miles or winters. However, it’s charming and humorous, and I’m sure the few people who see it (along with everyone reading this blog) will appreciate it. What I value most is how individuals find unique ways to express creativity in their car projects—and I’m even more impressed when they achieve it without significant spending.
The first-generation Colorado isn’t a particularly high-end vehicle, but not everyone can afford to have custom roll cages installed in Porsches. I believe in making the best of what you've got and seeking chances to add your unique flair.
The person behind this Chevy Colorado project, Macie Bliss, has also been sharing truck updates on TikTok. Most of her content is there—I stumbled upon this build through Instagram, though, because I’m older.
Taking a casual scroll through her TikTok reveals that Bliss has dedicated considerable effort and time to this truck. It has undergone significant bodywork, received Hummer H3 axles, the differential has been opened, she's tackled the heater core (a tough job on nearly any vehicle), and made various changes to the suspension to give her Colorado a broad, desert-inspired stance.
Alright, that’s it; I’m feeling inspired. Not to paint my driveshaft, but to finally get one of my many (sigh) non-running vehicles back on the road.
