Citroen's New Quirky SUV Hints at Interior and Electric Features Ahead of Tomorrow's Unveiling | Carscoops

The comfort-oriented SUV maintains the unique design of the concept while incorporating the latest technology inside the cabin.

Citroen is set to unveil the production version of the new C5 Aircross SUV on April 29.

This model will offer a fully electric powertrain for the first time.

The interior features a floating center console with a portrait-oriented infotainment system.

The countdown is on for the next-generation Citroen C5 Aircross, which will soon be available with electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain choices. In a gradual reveal, the French automaker has shared some exterior and interior details ahead of the SUV's global launch on April 29. For those anticipating a fresh look from Citroen, this is the model they are banking on.

We are already quite familiar with the exterior of the new C5 Aircross, thanks to patent sketches that emerged online earlier this year. The SUV resembles the 2024 concept, but features smaller wheels, conventional door handles, and thicker pillars. Notably, the production version retains the extended LED taillights and the aerodynamic wheels from the concept, adding a touch of French flair to the family vehicle.

The real surprise lies within the cabin. Teaser images showcase a slim floating center console equipped with a large portrait-style infotainment screen, complemented by a series of physical buttons beneath it. There is also an elegantly designed drive selector and a digital instrument cluster visible, with storage and cupholders conveniently positioned behind the display. Overall, the interior appears sleek, modern, and ready to enhance the commuting experience.

Based on the closely related Opel Grandland and the smaller Citroen C3 Aircross / Opel Frontera models, the Citroen C5 Aircross will likely feature heavily padded "comfort" seats. These will be paired with a Citroen-specific suspension system, adhering to the comfort-oriented approach of its predecessor. Additionally, we anticipate new technology offerings from Stellantis' inventory and some added practicality from the slightly larger dimensions.

We already know that the C5 Aircross will utilize Stellantis’ STLA Medium architecture, the same platform that supports the Peugeot 3008/5008, Opel Grandland, and DS No8. It is also expected to support the upcoming DS No7.

These shared foundations pave the way for a true electric version of the C5 Aircross, a first for this model. Alongside the EV, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will be available, while certain markets may still offer traditional combustion engines for the time being.

With the C5X fastback crossover set to be phased out once the current generation concludes, the C5 Aircross is poised to become Citroen’s flagship model. This represents a logical, albeit unexciting, evolution for the brand as it emphasizes practicality, comfort, and now, electrification.

All remaining details will be revealed during the "Citroen Electric Show" event on April 29, with the fully electric variant anticipated to take the spotlight. Stay tuned, as Citroen's teasers suggest that the new C5 Aircross may be worth your attention.
