      Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become one of the most polarizing figures in America, resulting in significant backlash. Incidents of gunfire directed at dealerships, firebombing of vehicles, and frequent protests have become commonplace.

      Tesla owners and their automobiles have also been targeted, and new insights reveal the extent of this issue. According to the study, 44% of Tesla owners reported that their vehicle was intentionally harmed.

      This encompasses various acts, from keying to slashing tires. Repair costs averaged around $1,900, and 25% of those surveyed stated they captured footage of someone damaging their vehicle.

      These statistics are distressingly high; however, it's essential to recognize that this data comes from a small-scale study of 508 Tesla owners conducted by Guardian Service. With this caveat noted, Tesla EVs in the southern United States appear to be the most vulnerable to vandalism.

      Moreover, 43% of owners reported experiencing "rude gestures or negative comments from strangers," while 72% believe they are more likely to be singled out for vandalism compared to other drivers. The study also revealed that 66% of Tesla owners feel uneasy about leaving their vehicle unattended.

      Considering the vandalism incidents, it’s not surprising that 61% of owners noted an increase in their insurance premiums, which reportedly averaged $340 annually. This represents a significant rise, with 53% of owners anticipating another hike this year.

      With some Tesla owners living in fear, it’s unsurprising that 19% regret their purchase. Additionally, 30% of owners indicated they would not choose a Tesla again. The study highlighted that millennials are most likely to feel buyer’s remorse, while 37% of Gen Z owners are contemplating selling or trading in their Tesla within the next year.

      Despite these challenges, the company continues to have its proponents, with a majority of owners (66%) willing to recommend a Tesla to friends. However, 37% of owners have reportedly "avoided posting about their car on social media due to concerns about backlash or judgment."
