Introducing the AUDI E5 Sportback from the Chinese brand that's affiliated with Audi yet not entirely Audi | Carscoops.
The new AUDI brand is set to make an impression at the Shanghai Auto Show with their inaugural production model.
Audi plans to showcase five new models, with the highlight being the E5 Sportback, which marks AUDI’s first production vehicle. Attendees can also see the new A5L, A5L Sportback, Q5L, and A6L e-tron.
While the AUDI brand in China appears to be desperate for attention, they are preparing to unveil their first production model at the Shanghai Auto Show – the AUDI E5 Sportback, which was previewed by a concept last year.
Scheduled for release this summer, the production model is a mid-sized electric vehicle featuring a “coupe design.” Although details are scarce, it seems to closely resemble the original concept, showcasing a recognizable front end, sleek body design, and flush door handles. Additional features include digital rearview mirrors and what seems to be a lidar sensor mounted on the roof.
AUDI has not revealed much information but has stated that the “brand and car are designed for a new generation of Chinese customers.” While this doesn't provide much information, it is expected that the model is approximately 191.7 inches (4,870 mm) long, making it 4.8 inches (122 mm) shorter than the redesigned A6.
The E5 Sportback is expected to utilize the Advanced Digitized Platform and could feature a powertrain similar to last year's concept. The concept model was equipped with a dual motor all-wheel drive system producing 764 hp (570 kW / 775 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, with a 100 kWh battery providing a CLTC range of 435 miles (700 km).
In addition to the E5 Sportback, Audi will introduce a variety of extended wheelbase models for the Chinese market, including the A5L, A5L Sportback, Q5L, and A6L e-tron.
