Project Safari redefines the original Lotus Elise into a custom off-road performance vehicle.

The revamped Elise sits 100mm higher and boasts a fully tailored suspension system.

Founded by a photographer turned builder, Get Lost aims to create cars that prioritize the joy of driving.

The niche sports car market is rich with underrated treasures, among which the original Lotus Elise S1 stands out. While cherished by enthusiasts, it often goes unnoticed by the general public, never attaining the same recognition (or resale value) as cars like the Porsche 911. Nonetheless, one firm believes this is about to shift.

That firm, Get Lost, established by photographer GFWilliams, presents its inaugural creation, Project Safari, which takes an already fun vehicle and amplifies its distinctiveness even further.

The team behind this car claims it’s more than just an Elise with an elevation kit and decorative bodywork. It represents a thorough reimagining of the lightweight roadster, incorporating significant internal and external modifications. For instance, it features a custom suspension, a ride height that’s 100mm taller than standard, and all-terrain tires.

Interestingly, Get Lost only mentions that the drivetrain is new and offers "strong, reliable performance," suggesting it likely isn’t British. The protruding air intakes in the engine bay might provide clues, indicating at least two intake manifolds, hinting at a V6 engine or something with considerable power aspirations.

Reinforcing this theory are the broad rear fender flares, designed to accommodate much larger tires and potentially more power. The overall design includes square headlights, white rally-style wheels, custom wing mirrors, and authentic fog lights at the front. Beneath, it includes a limited-slip differential and a hydraulic handbrake, suggesting the vehicle is meant for more than just posing for photos.

“This isn’t a modified Elise; it’s our interpretation of what the platform can provide. Every aspect has been thoughtfully considered—from the design to the driving experience—all to create something enjoyable,” states Get Lost founder George Williams. “If you understand it, you understand us. If not? Get Lost.” That’s quite a bold statement, but will it be effective?

Only time will reveal the answer, but this vehicle would certainly look impressive speeding through the desert alongside a Porsche 911 Dakar or even a Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. Get Lost has announced plans to start delivering customer cars later this year and is currently open to “letters of interest” from “customers, collaborators, and anyone who resonates with this vision.”
