A Florida man, aged 33, sustained severe injuries after a Jeep rolled over him while he was sunbathing.
The 61-year-old female driver has been charged with careless driving in connection with the incident.
The victim incurred a broken arm, a shattered femur, a cracked pelvis, and third-degree burns as a result of the accident.
Earlier this week, a 33-year-old resident of Florida found himself in a critical situation after a Jeep driver ran over him while he was sunbathing at Ormond Beach. According to police, the 61-year-old woman driving the Wrangler was trying to park on the sand when she accidentally ran over Colson Janey.
Lying on the beach is meant to be a relaxing experience, and for Janey, it began that way. In an interview with local media, he recounted dozing off on his stomach when, unexpectedly, “a tire was going over my head.” “I was just screaming. Screaming my head off, screaming bloody murder, of course, because I was in so much pain.”
The Ocala, Florida resident was left with multiple fractures in his right forearm, a broken femur, a cracked pelvis, and severe burns. Surgeons have already operated, inserting a titanium rod into his leg.
“It felt like I had two brains,” Janey remarked during a chat with WESH 2. “One brain was just screaming and focused on the pain I was in. The other brain was being more rational, thinking, ‘OK, what’s broken? What’s moving?’”

The EMTs arrived quickly at the scene. However, Janey’s aunt mentioned that the ambulance got stuck in the sand several times while trying to transport her injured nephew.
The Driver's Response
Regarding the Jeep driver, Fox News reports that the 61-year-old is cooperating with the investigation and has been charged with careless driving. Police confirmed that she “did not seem impaired” during the incident. Her husband expressed that she is understandably devastated by what happened, as running someone over tends to leave a person feeling guilty, regardless of it being an accident.
In the aftermath of this traumatic event, Janey has suggested that clearer signage should be put up at the beach to indicate where vehicles are and aren’t permitted to drive on the sand. While the debate over beach parking is commonplace, this incident has underscored the potential dangers of unrestricted access to areas where people seek relaxation.
