Leaked documents suggest that a Stellantis plant is currently producing 600 Hemi engines daily.
Stellantis is said to be manufacturing 5.7-liter Hemi engines for the Ram 1500 at a location in Mexico.
The leaked information also reveals that the facility aims to reach a production target of 630 Hemi engines per day by July.
The 5.7L Hemi V8 is expected to relocate to Michigan after it undergoes retooling at the Dundee Plant.
Recent leaked documents indicate that the production of the 5.7-liter Hemi is thriving in Mexico, with the V8 likely set to enter the Ram 1500 shortly. Earlier reports suggested that Hemi production would be returning to the United States, but that this would not occur until mid-summer.
The Hemi has not been entirely absent from production; Dodge continues to use it in the Durango, and it is also featured in the Ram 2500 heavy-duty truck. A month ago, Stellantis' Canadian CEO mentioned that the brand values satisfied customers and advised to stay tuned when asked about the Hemi's return. Now, corroborating earlier reports, a new document appears to confirm its comeback.
The document in question includes a production plan from Stellantis, stating: “Hemi – Plan to attain 630 jpd by July’25 to support 5.7L DT.” In Stellantis terminology, this refers to producing 630 Hemi engines daily by July to cater to the Ram 1500.
Thus, we now know two new pieces of information: first, the 5.7-liter Hemi is back in production, and second, it will be used in the Ram 1500. This aligns with varying previous reports, including an email from earlier this year that made a similar forecast. Furthermore, sources indicate that there are already test vehicles with 5.7-liter Hemi engines among the Stellantis corporate offices.
Where the Hemi Is Manufactured (For Now)
As reported by YouTube channels TK’s Garage and Butter Da Insider, the Hemi V8 for the Ram 1500 will initially be produced at Stellantis’ Saltillo North Engine Plant in Mexico. However, a source mentioned, “The Hemi is expected to move to America,” and noted that “it would take several months to retool” for the transition. This aligns with earlier reports about the eventual production of the Hemi at Stellantis’ Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan. It remains to be seen if this transition will happen in August or if it will be postponed until the facility is ready.
What About the Charger?
Naturally, some enthusiasts are curious if this implies the Hemi will also return in other models, such as the Dodge Charger. While no official documents have confirmed this, there is some circumstantial evidence suggesting it might occur.
TK’s Garage on YouTube recently shared a photo from the factory line showing what appear to be modified Chargers with altered firewalls. Could this indicate that Dodge is preparing to fit a Hemi V8 under the Charger’s hood? While it's certainly a possibility, until we receive firm confirmation, it remains speculative.
