As the Philly-area correspondent for The Drive, I’m relatively unfazed by certain incidents. For instance, when videos emerged this past weekend showing a SEPTA bus crashing into a Honda CR-V on Roosevelt Boulevard, it felt like just another day in the city—similar to I-95's collapse, a pig running loose on the Schuylkill, or our sports lore laced with tales of Lithuania. However, the surprised and entertained reactions online suggest that such occurrences are not commonplace for public transport in other places. Let’s hope you never find yourself driving down Girard.
This particular incident took place last Friday around 4 p.m., and the cause remains unclear. A SEPTA representative stated that the bus driver claimed to have “accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes.” The transit authority is performing a thorough inspection of the bus and compiling a report. Five passengers on the bus and two individuals in the Honda reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the accident.
The video captures the bus pushing the CR-V through an intersection, with the SUV's tires expressing distress throughout. Thankfully, the traffic in front of the bus cleared, and the light turned green just as the bus approached, preventing additional chaos. As vehicles in adjacent lanes began to move, the bus appears to slow down towards the shoulder, but we never actually see it come to a complete stop.
We may learn more about the reasons behind this bewildering event later this week; for now, we are left with our perplexed astonishment. Go Birds, I suppose?

I’ve heard about the Tush Push, but this is just absurd.
