This week brings another collection of former race cars with a noteworthy heritage up for sale. For the first time in its distinguished history, Audi is offering a limited selection of its LMP1 and Class 1-era DTM prototypes.

The German manufacturer announced earlier this week through its newly established Audi Sport racing legends project team that chassis 107 of the RS 5 DTM and chassis 207 of the R18 e-tron quattro are now available for purchase. However, don’t start browsing auction sites just yet. If you weren’t invited to the exclusive "for selected connoisseurs" event, unfortunately, you have no chance of securing one.

Those within the trusted circle were able to get a glimpse of two of the fastest race cars ever produced by Audi. The company has enjoyed multiple victories at Le Mans and several championship titles with these legendary chassis. The LMP1 hybrid prototype R18 chassis made history by winning its racing debut at the 2012 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps during the FIA World Endurance Championship. In that particular race, Audi clinched the top four spots with its new RP2-gen R18 chassis. The RS 5 chassis triumphed in the 2015 DTM series finale in Hockenheim.

“We are restoring these [original] chassis using reconditioned parts from that era into racing cars, adhering to strict standards and a high level of expertise,” stated Rolf Michl, managing director of Audi Sport. “In some instances, developers from that time have been involved in the current projects.”

This means these retired racers will be delivered in drivable condition. And if you're wondering about the price…

One vehicle has already been sold, and the unnamed buyer is set to receive their car this summer. After the sale, Audi Sport will continue to offer vehicle servicing and support, including regular technical inspections, spare parts availability, repair options, and expertise from former developers.

“Customers can expect not just highly sought-after racing cars, but also a thrilling driving experience,” Michl added. “Our customers become part of an exclusive group, gain from our motorsport expertise, and receive comprehensive assistance.”

It is important to note that these chassis are just the first to be sold through the Audi Sport racing legends program. The second-life historics project, along with its full range of services, will be presented to a wider yet still selective audience at upcoming classic car events, such as the Jim Clark Revival, Le Mans Classic, and Goodwood Festival of Speed.
