      Alfa Romeo is preparing to phase out the current-generation Giulia sedan after ten years on the market. However, don’t get too emotional just yet—while production may be coming to an end in the next few months, the Giulia will still be present in North America until 2026. Additionally, the Giulia nameplate is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

      Reports suggest that the 2027 Alfa Romeo Giulia may transition to a crossover format, moving away from its sedan origins.

      The Italian manufacturer is actively developing a new Giulia, which is expected to debut with a fresh Stelvio model. Both vehicles are anticipated to debut sometime next year.

      Appearance of the New Giulia

      Since prototypes of the upcoming Giulia have not yet been seen publicly, it’s challenging to determine its design. Recent discussions indicate that Alfa Romeo might implement a significant change, potentially evolving the Giulia into a fastback-style crossover, similar to models like the Peugeot 408 or Kia EV6.

      A couple of months back, we explored renderings of this sedan-crossover hybrid, but digital artist Theophilus Chin (known as Theottle) took a different direction. He posed an intriguing question on Instagram: “What if Alfa Romeo refreshes the Giulia while retaining the highly regarded Giorgio RWD platform?”

      A Novel Interpretation of the Current Giulia

      Chin’s renderings illustrate what the new Giulia could resemble if Alfa Romeo chooses to retain the existing chassis, extending its lifespan rather than transitioning to the STLA Large platform. While this is a purely theoretical concept, it is an intriguing one, even if not entirely feasible.

      To reimagine the vehicle, Theottle began by overlaying the body of the Xiaomi SU7 onto the structure of the current Giulia, followed by numerous significant modifications. While it may seem unconventional, the result is surprisingly effective.

      Although the SU7 differs greatly from the Giulia, it features appealing lines and creases that are preserved in these renderings. The front end has been revamped, now showcasing recognizable Alfa Romeo headlights integrated into a triangular grille.

      The rear also features appealing attributes, including LED taillights reminiscent of the current Subaru WRX, this time unified by a light bar for a contemporary feel.

      The Giulia's Future

      If current reports are accurate, the new Giulia will be based on Stellantis’s STLA Large architecture, which is already being employed in the new Dodge Charger. Electric variants are planned, and Alfa Romeo has indicated it is also developing various hybrid options.

      Recent comments from the brand suggest that the high-performance Quadrifoglio versions of the new Giulia and Stelvio may retain six-cylinder engines, possibly connected to the well-regarded 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 currently featured in these models. Whether this will materialize remains to be seen, but for now, it is just speculation.
