Dealers are well-known for their markups, but in this instance, one ended up losing money on a nearly new Dodge Durango Hellcat.

A fortunate buyer acquired a brand-new 2024 Durango with just 25 miles for $81,500 at auction.

With only 25 miles on the clock, the dealer had intended to keep it as a collectible item.

Now, that Stellantis dealer has moved on and purchased a 2025 model to store and not drive.

It's widely acknowledged that dealers typically aim to maximize their profit margin whenever possible. The sticker price? Just a suggestion. However, occasionally the situation reverses, resulting in some amusing outcomes. In this instance, a Stellantis dealer in New York has taken a significant financial blow, and this isn’t something easily overlooked.

We are talking about a loss of tens of thousands of dollars because the original owner had apparently intended to keep this Dodge Durango SUV as a collectible but ultimately opted to auction it instead.

Note: Dodge has reduced pricing on the Durango and Hornet by as much as $11,000.

This isn’t just any upgraded Dodge Durango; it is a 2024 SRT Hellcat. Known by some fans as the Hellrango, it delivers 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft (873 Nm) of torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8. This power is distributed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, with Dodge claiming it can accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in an impressive 3.5 seconds. Additionally, it features three rows of seating and can tow up to 8,700 pounds!

For these reasons, the MSRP of this specific vehicle was $112,880, which included $15,290 in optional features such as the Premium Package 2XY and the Black Package, plus a $1,595 destination fee.

However, despite these features, the Empire Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in NY ultimately sold it for only $81,500, despite having just 25 miles on the odometer. To provide some context, that's actually less than the original MSRP of the Durango Hellcat when it debuted back in 2021.

In terms of auctions, this one seemed to fly under the radar, gathering only 17 comments and an equal number of bids. On the final day of the auction, the bidding had only reached $60,500. By 9:37 a.m., it had climbed to $80,000 but saw little movement before the auction ended. This peculiar outcome suggests that great deals are still available.

What contributed to the sale price of this Durango may have been the dealer's approach. Whoever posted it on Bring A Trailer didn’t appear concerned about presentation; the photos looked amateurish, the wheels were missing center caps, and the plastic coverings weren't removed long enough to showcase the upholstery—though this might actually help demonstrate that the vehicle has not been altered.

Ultimately, one person’s loss turned out to be another person’s gain. In this case, the successful bidder made a substantial acquisition of one of the last Hemi V8s currently available at what can be considered a significant discount. Sometimes, a poorly executed listing and a dash of patience are all it takes.

Thanks to Jason for the heads-up!
