New Hemi V8 Production Line Set to Launch in August: Report
While there may not be a universally accepted point at which a significant number of rumors can be treated as fact, if such a threshold exists, the current surge of speculation surrounding the revival of Hemi engines must be nearing it. To put it differently, it’s a new week, and yet again we are greeted with reports suggesting that production of the long-dormant engines from the iconic Mopar V8 lineup is not only probable but might restart as soon as this summer. This aligns with an earlier dealer leak indicating the V8 could make its way back to the Ram 1500 production line before the close of 2025.
The recent report originates from Mopar Insiders, which references a source within Stellantis stating that production for the 5.7-liter, supercharged 6.2-liter, and 6.4-liter Apache V8 is set to begin at the company’s Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan as early as August. It’s worth noting that the Hurricane I6 engine continues to be manufactured in Saltillo, where the equipment for the old Hemi lineup was removed to accommodate the new engine family. Production of the heavy-duty version of the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 has been ongoing, while the others remain on pause.
A spokesperson for Ram described the report as “speculation” when The Drive sought a comment.
Earlier this month, a leaked dealer communication suggested that Ram intends to restart production of models with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 by the year's end, likely for the 2026 model year. This leak also indicated that the Hellcat-equipped Ram TRX is expected to return around the same time—potentially with an increase in horsepower. This could be a strategy to stay ahead of Ram's electrified performance models and might serve as a nod to V8 enthusiasts who have patiently awaited the revival. Additionally, the leak aligns with earlier official remarks from Ram about placing greater emphasis on the hybrid truck rather than its long-range electric counterpart.
Nevertheless, despite the escalation of rumors, there remains a significant amount we don't know regarding this potential Hemi comeback. Importantly, we have no insight into the cost of entering the new V8 pickup market. For that information, we will have to wait until Ram is prepared to divulge more about the 2026 model year and beyond.
Get ready, everyone. It promises to be an exciting year ahead.
