Mixed-Up Mitsubishi Eclipse Believes It's a Corvette | Carscoops
This unusual Mitsubishi convertible is currently priced at just over $20,000 in the Philippines.
The Eclipse is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that once produced 210 hp.
At the back, it features four central tailpipes, reminiscent of a C7 Corvette.
Before Mitsubishi shifted its focus solely to SUVs and budget hatchbacks, it had a history of offering some thrilling vehicles. The Eclipse was among them, and this particular one is searching for a new owner. However, it stands out from other Eclipses due to its significant resemblance to the Chevy Corvette.
This is a 2004 model, making it a third-generation Eclipse—arguably the least desirable version of the coupe series that debuted in 1989. Fortunately, all of the very questionable bodywork has been replaced with aftermarket panels. Unless you look under the hood or inside the cabin, it's hard to tell this is a Mitsubishi.
The car has been fitted with a new front end featuring a sharp bumper with large air intakes, along with pointed headlights. It also has new quarter panels with flared arches to accommodate a new set of wheels. While the front bears some resemblance to a Corvette, the Chevy influence is most apparent at the rear.
The taillights, bumper, diffuser, and centrally-mounted four tailpipes all replicate the design of the C7 Corvette. However, unlike the real thing, this replica seems somewhat disappointing, mostly due to the droopy angle of the taillights.
Looking under the hood, this Eclipse contains the 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 instead of the 2.4-liter four-cylinder that was also available back then. This engine provides up to 210 hp and powers the front wheels. The listing on Facebook Marketplace does not specify what modifications have been made, but it does show a new air intake and a strut tower brace. The cabin is largely standard for the Eclipse, but has been updated with a new double-din screen.
Sadly, for US buyers interested in this quirky Eclipse, it's located in the Philippines, where it is listed for 1.2 million Philippine Pesos, approximately $20,700 based on current exchange rates.
If you're interested (or need to see it to believe it), you can find the listing here.
