Mercedes-AMG's fully electric flagship SUV has been spotted undergoing winter testing.

This EV will compete against the Lotus Eletre, Porsche K1, and Bentley's forthcoming crossover.

It utilizes the AMG.EA platform, which will also serve as the foundation for the upcoming four-door GT.

Slower-than-anticipated sales for EVs have prompted both Porsche and Mercedes to reaffirm their dedication to combustion engines, but this change in strategy won't stop them from launching new electric flagship models. Our spy photographers have recently captured images of AMG’s competitor undergoing winter trials ahead of its debut next year.

AMG previously shared a ‘spy’ image and a short video last December, both taken at their test facility. However, these latest pictures show the electric super-SUV undergoing real-world testing in northern Europe, providing a better view of the EV from various angles.

Similar to Ferrari’s V12-powered Purosangue, the unnamed electric AMG leans more towards a crossover than a traditional SUV. It features a relatively low roofline, moderate ground clearance, a slender glasshouse, and a sporty slant to its rear window. In contrast to the AMG-badged GLS63, the priciest SUV in their current line-up, this electric model is likely to accommodate only two rows of seats.

Currently, every AMG SUV available is an enhanced version of a standard Mercedes model, but this one will be exclusive to AMG and developed internally at Affalterbach. It is expected to be approximately 5.1 meters (200 inches) long, providing ample space with a wheelbase of around 3 meters (118 inches).

This prototype is equipped with temporary lights at the rear, while the front lights are covered with camouflage, yet they still reveal glimpses of the star motif DRLs below. It’s likely that these light elements could be integrated directly into the body rather than housed in a traditional cluster, reminiscent of the 2022 Mercedes Vision AMG concept.

That concept showcased a Porsche Taycan competitor, serving as a successor to the four-door AMG GT, which will also be built on the same AMG.EA platform as the SUV, sharing battery and motor technology. Fast charging through 800-volt electrics means that charging sessions will be short, and if the rumors about over 1,000 hp (1,014 PS / 746 kW) hold true, zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) times will be impressively quick. We are confident in these claims.

Mercedes-AMG may unveil the SUV in 2026, with sales slated to begin in 2027, potentially allowing it to reach the market slightly ahead of its Porsche K1 counterpart.
