Tesla Superchargers Set on Fire in Massachusetts, Sparking Concerns About Arson Incidents | Carscoops

Tesla reports that the fire occurred early in the morning when no stalls were being utilized.

Recently, several Tesla Supercharger stations were set ablaze overnight in Littleton, Massachusetts.

Investigators are treating the incident as a targeted act of arson against the electric vehicle company.

This incident marks the third arson case involving Tesla products within a week.

Electric vehicle owners might face an unfortunate surprise when they arrive to charge their cars today, only to find their intended station turned into a charred ruin. This is the case at the Tesla Supercharger station in Littleton, Massachusetts, where at least seven stalls were set on fire overnight. Authorities are currently treating this incident as arson.

"Chief Matthew Pinard has stated that the Littleton Police Department is responding to and investigating the fires at a Tesla charging station located at The Point Shopping Center, which are suspected to be suspicious in nature,” local officials informed ABC News. “Responding officers reported that several Tesla charging stations were engulfed in flames and thick, dark smoke."

Authorities have indicated that they suspect arson. "The Littleton Police and Fire Departments, along with the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit from the State Fire Marshal's Office, are examining the situation and believe that the fire was likely set intentionally," they confirmed. This is a crucial point, especially since Tesla has provided additional context that supports this assessment.

While fires at electric vehicle or charging stations can occur, they are quite rare and usually result from a thermal event caused by a malfunctioning connection between a vehicle and charger. However, in this instance, Tesla has confirmed that no cars were connected at the time. Notably, the company has stated that the station will be fully operational again in under 48 hours.

No customers were charging when the fire broke out. Posts and wiring will be replaced in less than 48 hours. This site is vital for electric vehicle drivers. The arson investigation is ongoing with the Littleton Police Department.— Tesla Charging (@TeslaCharging) March 4, 2025

Interestingly, Tesla seems to respond quickly when incidents like this occur. After vandals targeted chargers about a week ago, the team vowed to resolve the issue within a day and pursue charges. They may take similar action if police identify a suspect in the Massachusetts fires.

Unfortunately, this incident marks the third arson attack within just a week. In Colorado, police arrested a suspect found with explosives and incendiary devices near a Tesla dealership—luckily, no fires were ignited. In France, however, the situation was darker, with police suspecting that someone set fire to at least a dozen vehicles at a service center overnight on Sunday, including customer cars awaiting repairs.
