The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is incorporating 10 Tesla Cybertrucks into its fleet at no cost.
Some of these vehicles will be adapted for SWAT use, featuring specialized modifications for off-road capabilities.
It was only a matter of time before the Tesla Cybertruck entered police service, and that moment has come with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirming the addition of 10 Cybertrucks to their fleet, which will be used for more than just promotional purposes.
It is common for police departments globally to adopt flashy and expensive vehicles, often leading to controversy if taxpayer funds are involved. However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department clarifies that all 10 Cybertrucks are being "donated by an anonymous supporter," avoiding any funding-related criticism.
According to the department, some Cybertrucks will be utilized by local SWAT teams, while others will serve as standard patrol vehicles for officers in Las Vegas. A couple of renderings illustrate how the modified Cybertrucks might appear, and despite the vibrant atmosphere of Las Vegas with its bright lights and excitement, these Teslas are sure to attract attention.
The SWAT version showcased is designed in a new desert color and features black aftermarket wheels equipped with large mud-terrain tires. It also seems to include reinforced armored doors and windows, off-road tracks, and custom bumpers. It's uncertain whether the final product will resemble this rendering, as it appears to be based on an upgraded Cybertruck from Unplugged Performance revealed in late 2023.
The standard police cruiser variant has a more subdued design and has been previewed with an image based on Unplugged Performance's Cybertruck cop car revealed last year. Modifications consist of new flashing light bars, custom wheels, and LED spotlights.
“Imagine when we’re out charging these vehicles and officers are approached by community members wanting to see this,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated to Fox 5 Vegas. “It’s an opportunity to inject humanity and enhance our community partnerships. This also serves as a fantastic recruitment tool.”
