Lucid CEO Resigns Abruptly as Company Aims to Double Production | Carscoops

Rawlinson will continue with the company as a strategic technical advisor to the board.

The electric vehicle startup is planning to produce as many as 20,000 vehicles this year as production of the Gravity model increases.

Peter Rawlinson has taken on the role of Strategic Technical Advisor for the Lucid board.

Last year, Lucid manufactured 9,029 vehicles and delivered 10,241 to its customers.

In recent years, Lucid's CEO Peter Rawlinson has been the prominent figure of the innovative electric vehicle brand, but shortly after the introduction of the Gravity SUV, the British engineer stepped back. Marc Winterhoff, the current chief operating officer, will temporarily take over as Lucid's board searches for a permanent CEO.

Rawlinson became part of Lucid in 2013, after previously serving as the vice president for vehicle engineering for the Tesla Model S. He has played a crucial role in the company's growth and was involved when it transitioned from Atieva to Lucid in 2016. Although Lucid has shown promising growth, it remains a relatively small player in the electric vehicle market, but it has ambitious plans for 2025.

“Now that we have successfully launched the Lucid Gravity, I believe it is the right moment for me to step back from my roles at Lucid,” Rawlinson stated. “I take immense pride in what the Lucid team has accomplished together during my twelve years here. We evolved from a small company with lofty goals to a globally recognized technological leader in sustainable mobility.”

Rawlinson will not be leaving the company and will now act as Strategic Technical Advisor to the Chairman of the Board.

On the same day Rawlinson resigned as CEO, Lucid released its full-year 2024 and fourth-quarter financial results. In the previous year, Lucid produced a total of 9,029 vehicles and delivered 10,241. The revenue for Q4 reached $234.5 million, while the annual revenue exceeded $807.8 million, and Lucid ended the quarter with approximately $6.13 billion in total liquidity.

2025 is expected to be a significant year for Lucid, as production of the Gravity SUV is set to increase, with the company targeting approximately 20,000 vehicles this year. Winterhoff has not disclosed the expected percentage of new sales for the Gravity, but given the high demand for luxury SUVs, it may become more popular than the Lucid Air sedan.

All versions of the Lucid SUV feature a substantial 123 kWh battery, providing the Gravity with an impressive range of 450 miles (724 km). It also incorporates advanced 926-volt electrical architecture that enables DC fast charging capabilities of up to 400 kW.
