TikTok Users Are Targeting Cybertrucks With Anti-Musk Messages | Carscoops
A group called Cybertruck Hunters is utilizing electric vehicles (EVs) as mobile billboards to convey messages against Elon Musk and Tesla.
The protestors on TikTok are specifically targeting Cybertrucks with messages directed at Musk, including clips of his disputed hand gesture during Trump's inauguration. Many users are also criticizing Musk’s views on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Since Elon Musk began engaging in politics and public affairs, there has been a noticeable rise in anti-Tesla sentiment among his detractors, even as many supporters remain vocal. A recent study from the UK suggested that some consumers are being deterred by Musk's behavior.
As Musk attracts more controversy, some people are also growing weary of the much-anticipated Tesla Cybertruck. The combination of disdain for Musk and the Cybertruck has led to the emergence of the Cybertruck Hunters, a TikTok account aiming to provoke Musk.
This TikTok page, launched only a few days ago, has a straightforward purpose: the users drive around at night looking for Cybertrucks. Once they spot one, they position themselves behind it and project images and messages critical of Musk onto the EV's stainless steel tailgate.
Their tactics resemble those of recent Tesla protestors in Germany, who projected Musk’s notorious Nazi-like salute onto the company's German factory.
Various messages are displayed on the backs of Cybertrucks. One message poses the question, “I wonder if everyone who’s passing me thinks I am a Nazi?” accompanied by a clip of Musk's controversial gesture at Trump's inauguration, concluding with, “Or do they think I am just an arrogant prick?”
Another message states, “Tesla Cybertruck, The Most Recalled Truck In 2024.” More severe criticisms include one featuring Musk's image, declaring, “Figures the guy who made a truck shaped like a coffin… gets pleasure out of killing 3.2 million Sudanese children,” referencing Musk’s Starlink service shutting down in Sudan during a humanitarian crisis.
Political messages are also included, such as one alleging, “Musk has called DEI ‘another word for racism’ and criticized it as immoral and illegal, which might explain why he designed the Cybertruck for white pricks.” A humorous message suggests, “Don’t think of this as a truck… think of it as a small (explicit) enlarger.”
We have attempted to contact the TikTok account to gather more insights into their objectives and what sparked their criticism of Musk and the Cybertruck, though the context strongly indicates their stance on the latter.
