Mitsubishi Revives Grandis Nameplate For Rebranded Renault Symbioz | Carscoops
The Grandis has made a comeback, reemerging as a hybrid compact SUV aimed at young families.
Mitsubishi has declared that a new Grandis will make its debut in July for the European market.
This model will be a rebadged version of the Renault Symbioz, which is essentially a longer version of the Captur.
The new Grandis will be offered with both mild-hybrid and full-hybrid powertrains.
Mitsubishi has unveiled the name of its latest Renault-based SUV for Europe, which will be known as the Grandis. The model has been teased ahead of its launch in July 2025, highlighting its family-friendly features and electrified powertrain choices.
The original Mitsubishi Grandis, meaning "large" and "impressive" in Latin, was a three-row, seven-seater minivan produced from 2003 to 2011. The new generation will be a rebadged Renault Symbioz compact SUV, specifically aimed at "young families." In essence, the Grandis will serve as a longer and more practical alternative to the Mitsubishi ASX, which is a counterpart of the Renault Captur.
Recent teasers have revealed the grille and tailgate of the Grandis, which is expected to share most of its exterior and interior design elements with the 4,413-mm (173.7 inches) long Renault Symbioz. Aside from the name and badges, the SUV will feature a reworked grille and a new iteration of the "Dynamic Shield" front design.
Mitsubishi states that the Grandis will provide a "spacious and flexible" interior, likely matching the Renault's boot capacity, which ranges from 492-624 liters (17.4-22 cubic feet) thanks to a sliding rear seat. Equipment will include a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and a built-in 10.4-inch infotainment system from Google.
The SUV will utilize the CMF-B platform, which is also used for the Mitsubishi Colt and ASX, as well as the Renault Clio, Captur, Symbioz, and Arkana, alongside the Nissan Micra and Juke, and the entire Dacia lineup. It will be available with both mild-hybrid and full-hybrid powertrain options, again sourced from Renault.
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Grandis will debut in July, with a market launch in Europe expected in late autumn 2025.
Following the Grandis, a yet-to-be-named compact SUV featuring a fully electric drivetrain will be introduced, representing Mitsubishi’s version of the Renault Scenic E-Tech, set to arrive later in 2025. As with the Mitsubishi Colt and ASX, both the Grandis and the new electric vehicle will be produced in Europe by the Renault Group.
