The system is intended to move over 20,000 passengers per hour throughout Dubai.
Elon Musk has referred to the forthcoming tunnel network as a “wormhole” through the city.
The Boring Company has not yet disclosed which Tesla models will be utilized in the Loop.
It has been over eight years since Elon Musk expressed his frustration with traffic and announced his plan to dig tunnels to transform public transport across the United States. So far, The Boring Company has successfully built a ‘Loop’ in Las Vegas, created a few tunnels at its production sites, and left a trail of unmet expectations. Now, the company is looking beyond U.S. borders, revealing plans to introduce its Loop system to Dubai.
Dubai could be an ideal site for one of Musk’s underground transit initiatives. The city is already recognized for some of the most ambitious construction projects globally, and significantly, it possesses the financial resources to support large-scale infrastructure developments. The Loop system will be established in collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), marking The Boring Company’s first confirmed expansion outside the United States.

The initial Loop pilot is set to encompass 10.5 miles (17 km) of tunnels and 11 stations, with the capacity to transport over 20,000 passengers per hour. According to leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Loop is expected to eventually extend throughout the entire Emirate of Dubai. When fully developed, the system could potentially move more than 100,000 passengers per hour.
Similar to the Las Vegas Loop, Dubai’s iteration will operate solely with electric vehicles transporting passengers between the stations. While The Boring Company has not detailed which models will be deployed, it is likely to include the newest Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. There is also a possibility that Tesla’s recently introduced Robovan could be part of the fleet, considering its advantages in narrow tunnel environments.

Limited additional information regarding the plan has been provided, apart from the vehicles being capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 mph (160 km/h). There has been no clarification on whether the vehicles will be capable of fully autonomous operation or if they will depend on human drivers, as is the case in Las Vegas.
More importantly, neither Dubai nor The Boring Company has revealed the project's cost or the anticipated start date for construction. Given The Boring Company’s history, these details may take some time to emerge.
While participating via video link at the World Governments Summit in the UAE, Musk stated, “Once people try it out, they’re going to say, ‘Wow, it’s really cool.’ It’s going to seem so obvious in retrospect. It’s going to be like a wormhole, from one part of the city, boom, and you’re at another part of the city, and it’s great. We look forward to this partnership.”
