These two supercars from America and Italy exhibit a similar wedge shape and extraordinary performance, but not much else.

Recently, the Corvette Z06 and Maserati MC20 Cielo competed in a thrilling U-Drag Race.

The outcomes were unexpected given the significant price difference between these two supercars.

They also highlight that high-performance automotive options are increasingly accessible.

Two of the most stunning supercars on the planet faced off in a U-Drag Race. The Maserati MC20 Cielo and Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 showcase impressive power, eye-catching designs, and the capability to exceed 200 mph (320 km/h). In this contest, they drag raced and then quickly turned around to return to the original starting point. The winner was clear in both races conducted.

The Maserati MC20 Cielo boasts 621 horsepower (463 kW) and 538 lb-ft (728 Nm) of torque from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. These specifications are intriguing because the Corvette complements them. It delivers more horsepower at 670 hp (499 kW), but less torque with 460 lb-ft (622 Nm). Both vehicles utilize an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and come with rear-wheel drive.

The most notable differences lie in their weight and pricing. The Maserati weighs in at slightly over 4,000 pounds (1,814 kg), while the Chevrolet's weight is just 3,715 pounds (1,685 kg). Additionally, the Maserati comes with a significantly higher sticker price of $371,450, while the Corvette is a more modest (though the term feels stretched) $147,800.

In both races, the MC20 struggles to match the Corvette's launch. This disparity significantly impacts the races, as the Corvette achieves higher speeds entering the braking zone, navigates the turn more swiftly, and wins each race with relative ease. The Z06 even extends its lead on the back straight. Notably, the drivers of both cars alternated between races.

Ultimately, the American supercar, which costs less than half of its Italian counterpart, outperformed it—not once, but twice—with different drivers at the wheel. It’s important to note that the Maserati faced a couple of hurdles, such as using Bridgestone tires, which are not as highly regarded as the Michelins on the Corvette. Additionally, the considerable weight disadvantage played a role.

We hope to see this race again, possibly with the hardtop MC20, which has a weight nearly identical to that of the Z06. Would the results differ in that scenario? Share your thoughts in the comments!
