When you think of BFGoodrich, it's easy to associate it with off-roading first. The renowned K02 and K03 all-terrain tires are what the brand is most famous for. Although BFGoodrich has been involved in high-performance summer tires, it hasn't been a major player in that segment. However, the company appears to be aiming to change that with its new g-Force Phenom T/A tire.

In the past, BFGoodrich offered high-performance summer tires like the g-Force Rival series, which were designed for extreme performance, similar to Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2. The Phenom takes a slightly different approach. It is categorized as an “ultra high-performance summer tire,” positioning it as less extreme than the Rival while still suitable for track use. It's comparable to tires like the Hankook Ventus V12 EV02, Yokohama Advan Apex V601, and Falken Azenis FK 510. Technically, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S also falls into this category, but a tire must prove its performance before it can be compared to the formidable PS4S.

According to BFGoodrich, the Phenom embodies the key features of a quality summer tire: rigid sidewalls, shallow shoulder blocks, and dual tread zones designed for both water evacuation and dry traction. Its standout feature appears to be a new silica-infused compound aimed at improving wet braking. BFGoodrich claims that the Phenom showed superior wet-braking performance compared to its competitors during tests conducted with a 2019 Genesis G70. Additionally, the Phenom will be the official tire for the Skip Barber Racing School. The tire initially launched in Australia and parts of Asia during the summer of 2023, and it is now making its way to North America.

The Phenom will be available in 20 sizes starting Friday, covering wheel sizes from 16 to 20 inches, with an additional 30 sizes set to be released in April. If your vehicle isn't covered by any of these 50 sizes, even more options will be introduced over the coming year. While there isn't official pricing for the Phenom at this time, if it aligns with similar summer tires from Hankook or Falken, BFGoodrich could offer a compelling choice. This is particularly noteworthy since Michelin owns BFGoodrich, and it’s hoped that some of the parent company’s expertise in Pilot Sport tires has influenced the Phenom’s design.
