Slot Mods Raceways is returning with a new handcrafted slot car track concealed within a vintage vehicle. A few years back, one of Slot Mods’ most sought-after creations—a track integrated into a replica Porsche 917—was auctioned on Bring a Trailer for a remarkable $205,000. Now, the Detroit-based firm presents a new model featuring another iconic racing legend adorned in those well-known Gulf colors.

Similar to the Porsche 917, this GT40 boasts a 1:32-scale replica of the Le Mans pit lane, complete with team garages, pit crews, and spectators in the stands. Surrounding the circuit are trees, sponsorship banners, and two integrated slots for remote controls. Like the 917 and many other creations from Slot Mods, the track is entirely contained within the replica Ford. With just a button press, the GT40's exterior lifts, exposing the track built into the car's "chassis." Even those who are not particularly keen on slot cars will be impressed by this.

The Ford GT40 achieved its fourth consecutive Le Mans win in 1969, driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver. This victory marked the end of the GT40’s dominance at Le Mans, as Ford's reign over its European competitors concluded. The Porsche 917KH claimed victory the following year, ironically in the same baby blue-and-orange colors.

According to Slot Mods founder Davie Beattie, the company serves a high-end clientele with ample space for large dioramas like this one—and presumably enough funds to spend what one might pay for a 911 GT3 on a slot car track. Beattie has crafted custom models for manufacturers like Ford and Audi and even built Ford CEO Jim Farley a scaled-down version of Laguna Seca. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown reportedly owns a Slot Mods track as well.

The craftsmanship displayed in Slot Mods’ tracks is extraordinary. Upon observing this GT40 from a distance, one might mistake it for a retired race car. As with all of Slot Mods’ replica constructions, this Ford is a 1:1 scale model that closely resembles the actual vehicle, featuring identical scoops and vents, along with functional headlights.

Slot Mods did not indicate whether this GT40 was made for a specific client or if it will be available for sale in the future. However, their Facebook update referenced Art Basel, the international for-profit art exhibition, with the next event scheduled in Hong Kong in March. Perhaps it will find a new owner there.
