Kia's Top-Selling Model in January Was a Sedan | Carscoops
Sedans are still relevant, and the Kia K4 demonstrates that there remains a strong market for them.
In the previous month, combined sales of the Kia K4 and Forte exceeded those of the Sportage. Additionally, K5 sales increased by 32.5% compared to the previous year.
Kia America achieved its highest sales in January to date, with five models setting new sales records for the month.
The decline of sedans has affected many vehicles, such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, Mazda6, and Nissan Maxima. Given this trend, it is notable that Kia's top-selling model in January was a sedan.
In total, the automaker sold 11,616 K4s and Fortes last month, making them Kia’s best-selling vehicles in January. The Sportage closely followed with 11,357 sales, while the popular but aging Telluride rounded out the top three with 8,771 sales.
Additionally, the K5 also performed well, with sales increasing by 32.5% from last year, totaling 4,357 units. The Carnival minivan also had a successful month with a 21.6% increase in sales.
However, not all models performed as well, as the Seltos saw a decline of 29%. The Niro, Sorento, and EV9 also experienced year-over-year decreases.
Despite mixed results across various models, Kia America celebrated its best January sales ever, selling 57,007 units last month, a 12% increase from the previous year. Five models recorded all-time January sales, which included the Carnival, K4/Forte, Telluride, Sportage, and EV6.
The K4's success is not surprising due to its appealing design and attractive starting price of $21,990. Most versions come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 147 hp (110 kW / 149 PS) and 132 lb-ft (179 Nm) of torque. In contrast, the top-tier K4 GT-Line Turbo features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque.
While K4 sales are reported together with the outgoing Forte, inventory is dwindling, with fewer than 350 new units available. Thus, the model is unlikely to remain on the market for much longer.
