Suzuki Halts Jimny 5D Orders in Japan Following a Four-Day Surge in Demand Resulting in a 3.5-Year Backlog | Carscoops
Four days after introducing the five-door Jimny Nomade in Japan, Suzuki has received enough orders to last for the next 3.5 years.
Suzuki has halted order acceptance for the Jimny Nomade in Japan temporarily.
In a mere 4 days, the company has garnered approximately 50,000 requests for the SUV.
The five-door Jimny is produced exclusively at Suzuki’s facility in India.
The four-door Suzuki Jimny Nomade has generated remarkable interest among Japanese consumers, prompting the company to temporarily stop accepting orders. The demand has been so intense that the automaker has had no choice but to pause orders, as the volume of requests significantly surpasses their production capabilities.
Just four days after launching the Jimny Nomade in Japan, Suzuki found itself facing an astonishing 50,000 orders. Since the production capacity for Japan is currently limited to about 1,200 units monthly, customers may have to wait approximately three and a half years for their new off-roader.
In a statement on its official website, Suzuki extended an apology to prospective buyers affected by this order backlog:
“We apologize to customers interested in purchasing the Jimny Nomad due to the pause in orders. We greatly appreciate your interest in our vehicles. The Jimny Nomad has received an excellent response, and our orders have significantly outpaced our production capacity. Consequently, we will be temporarily halting orders. We will keep you updated regarding when orders will reopen based on future production circumstances. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
What’s driving this surge in interest? The extended wheelbase and additional doors enhance the practicality and livability of Suzuki’s compact off-roader without compromising its rugged appearance and personality. Despite being 340 mm (13.4 inches) longer than the three-door variant, the Jimny Nomade remains compact at 3,890 mm (153.1 inches) in length.
The Jimny Nomade is manufactured at Suzuki’s Gurugram facility in India and is also being exported to various markets beyond Japan, including Southeast Asia, South Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
While Suzuki aims to process the current orders as swiftly as possible, there is no set timeline for when new bookings will be accepted. The first deliveries in Japan are scheduled for April 3rd. In light of the exceptional demand, Suzuki has also canceled all planned promotional events for the Jimny Nomade in Japan.
