This Teen Owned a New Audi S5 for Four Days, Which Was Approximately Four Days Too Long | Carscoops
A Nebraska teenager's Audi S5 was impounded just days after he purchased it, following a high-speed ride that led to his arrest and several charges.
The teen had owned the Audi S5 for only four days. He was caught speeding and weaving through traffic, and Nebraska law may suspend his license for up to a year.
Teenagers and high-performance vehicles rarely mix well, and a 19-year-old in Nebraska learned this lesson the hard way. Not only was he arrested, but his car was also impounded after only a few days of ownership.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies witnessed an Audi S5 driving in Omaha at 133 mph (214 km/h). To make matters worse, the vehicle was seen maneuvering between six other cars to reach the fast lane without signaling.
A traffic stop was initiated, and it was revealed that Tanner Jones had purchased the car on December 30. The incident occurred on January 3, meaning he had only owned the car for four days.
Unfortunately for Jones, deputies were not lenient; he was arrested for willful reckless driving, failure to signal, no proof of insurance, and exceeding the speed limit by over 36 mph (58 km/h). According to Nebraska law, a first offense for willful reckless driving is classified as a Class III misdemeanor, resulting in a driver’s license revocation for one month to a year.
The speeding ticket is reportedly $400, while the other two violations seem relatively minor. However, the car was also impounded, which can be quite costly to reclaim.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release an extensive statement regarding the incident, but they characterized it as a “dangerous production” that was so fast that even the Lidar required a double take due to the excessive speed. They concluded it was a case of a new car paired with poor decision-making.
