Police issued a citation to the driver involved in the accident, though the reason for his failure to brake at the intersection remains unclear.
A black Chevy Corvette Stingray crashed through a family's fence and struck their boat on Christmas Eve, causing significant damage but fortunately resulting in no injuries. Moments prior to the incident, the family's children had been playing in the yard.
In Palmetto Bay, Florida, what began as a quiet holiday evening took a dangerous turn when the Corvette barreled through the family's property. While no injuries were reported, the extent of the damage raised concerns in the community. Local officials, including the Vice Mayor, are now contemplating measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
A security camera outside the home recorded the C8 Corvette approaching from the south on Southwest 88th Court. For reasons unknown, the driver did not brake at the intersection and instead drove over the curb into the front yard, crashing into the wooden fence.
The force of the impact caused the Corvette to collide with the parked boat on the property. The footage shows the driver hesitating briefly before reversing and returning to the grass.
According to CBS News, the Corvette belongs to a neighbor. Despite the serious nature of the crash, nobody—including the driver, the passenger, or the family inside the home—sustained any injuries. Homeowner Genavieve Villar noted that her children had been playing just behind the fence seconds before the accident.
Recurring Incidents Spark Concerns
The Corvette incurred significant damage to its front and passenger side, while the family faces the need to replace their fence and repair their boat. This incident is not isolated; six months prior, Villar's husband was struck while backing their Ford F-150 out of the driveway.
Vice Mayor Mark Merwitzer has stated that the city is actively exploring strategies to reduce speeding and enhance safety in the area. Proposed solutions include speed bumps or the installation of a small roundabout near the intersection. Residents, especially this family, hope for a resolution before the next holiday season.
