Bugatti Might Revive a 20-Year-Old Icon, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up About Purchasing It | Carscoops
The model that revolutionized the hypercar industry is speculated to be making a return as a unique one-off special.
Reportedly set to debut on January 22, exactly 20 years after its original launch, this potential model might pay tribute to the Veyron, possibly adopting the classic red, black, and beige color scheme of the 2005 version.
Bugatti’s customized Solitaire program gained attention in September with the introduction of the Brouillard, a one-off hypercar featuring a W16 engine and inspired by the Mistral. This model marked the beginning of what is expected to be a series of extremely exclusive vehicles.
Now, indications suggest that a tribute to the Veyron is in the works, commemorating the car that significantly reshaped contemporary hypercar standards.
The Veyron's Influence
The Veyron represented a pivotal moment not only for Bugatti but for the entire automotive industry. Entering production in 2005 after years of concept development, it accomplished Ferdinand Piech’s aspiration: creating a hypercar that combined speed with comfort, dependability, and luxury.
The Veyron set multiple benchmarks for production cars, becoming the first road vehicle to boast 1,000 horsepower and the capacity to exceed 249 mph (400 km/h).
During its ten-year production run, Bugatti manufactured 450 units in various configurations, each one pushing the limits of performance engineering. While the Chiron (2016–2024) and the new Tourbillon (2025–present) have elevated performance standards even further, the Veyron continues to be the brand’s most iconic model.
According to a report from the Supercar Blog, citing anonymous sources connected to the brand, Bugatti plans to honor this legacy with a one-off tribute model, expected to make its debut on January 22, 2026, precisely twenty years after the first production Veyron was unveiled in Molsheim.
The design is said to directly reference the original Veyron 16.4, featuring the classic two-tone red and black paint scheme, accompanied by a beige interior and aluminum details.
Bugatti has confirmed that its Solitaire program will produce no more than two unique models each year, and these will be constructed using existing chassis and powertrain platforms, shaping the framework for what this upcoming tribute might entail.
Chiron Foundation Likely
Given these parameters, a base derived from the Chiron seems probable, especially considering that this now-discontinued model can accommodate the quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, which delivers up to 1,578 horsepower (1,177 kW / 1,600 PS).
However, there is still room for speculation. The tribute could utilize an original Veyron platform that has been refurbished with modern components. Both possibilities align with Bugatti's strategy of exclusivity, although the final product will undoubtedly come with an exorbitant price.
While these rumors remain unverified, Bugatti recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Veyron during its “Soirée de Noël” event at the Molsheim headquarters, describing it as “a milestone in hypercar history.” Attendees received miniature red-painted Veyrons as souvenirs, and a Bugatti designer sketched the model right on the dinner table.
We'll keep a lookout on the automaker’s social media platforms for any early indications. Hopefully, CEO Mate Rimac will share some details prior to the anticipated debut.
