What’s The Most Intelligent Strategy To Profit From Half A Supercar? | Carscoops
A fire-damaged 2020 McLaren 600LT is available for auction in Los Angeles.
It has a non-repairable title, a current engine, and significant exterior burn damage.
While it’s not roadworthy, it could serve well for parts or rebuilding projects.
Everyone appreciates a good bargain, and a McLaren at half price usually sounds appealing. However, in this instance, "half-off" refers more to the vehicle's condition than the price. After what must have been a frightening incident, this supercar is now a mere shell of its former self.
This auction features stock #40177751, a 2020 McLaren 600LT, and it’s being sold as just half of what it once was. The engine is included, albeit described as “extra crispy” by IAAI.
The digital dashboard is not functioning, the key is missing, and the rear axle is absent, making it nearly impossible to ascertain mileage or to establish a feasible route for returning it to the road.
That said, there are still parts that could potentially be salvaged. From the B-pillar forward, most of the car appears intact, though we can guess it doesn’t retain a pleasant odor. The seats have some damage, but the dashboard seems to have avoided significant harm. Additionally, all four wheels are included in the sale.
What Would You Save First?
If it were up to us, we’d make a concerted effort to recoup some cash. Initially, we’d salvage every usable but not immediately recognizable McLaren component to sell as replacement parts.
It may seem unusual, but there are many affluent owners looking to find a bargain on pre-owned yet functional parts. Depending on the sale price, dismantling the parts could help the buyer break even.
After that, we’d extract recognizable parts such as the fenders, hood, front bumper, doors, wheels, mirrors, and anything else that’s salvageable. We could transform those into art or furniture pieces aimed at wealthy customers seeking unique garage décor.
If this BMW V10 can fetch $4,500 as a coffee table, we believe similar projects involving this McLaren could achieve even greater success. What would you do with this car? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
