Chevrolet's new Corvette variant may challenge the E-Ray, potentially outselling the Stingray and reviving a classic performance name.

The Corvette Grand Sport is expected to debut for the 2027 model year, with a prototype recently seen featuring a Buick Tri-Shield logo, hinting at its Gran Sport heritage. Its widebody design resembles that of the E-Ray, Z06, and ZR1 models.

The C8 Chevrolet Corvette has made a significant impact, blending supercar aesthetics and high-performance capabilities into a more accessible package compared to its European competitors. From the base Stingray to the hypercar-comparable ZR1X, there are options for all types of buyers. Now, there's speculation about the revival of a beloved nameplate that enthusiasts have eagerly anticipated.

Rumors about the Grand Sport coming back have circulated for a while and seem to be gaining traction.

Recently, a masked C8 prototype was seen on the road, equipped with wheel center caps that prompted curiosity. Instead of the traditional Corvette emblem, it displayed Buick's iconic Tri-Shield, an intriguing detail many viewed as a nod to the Gran Sport’s association with Buick's performance legacy.

Reports from GM Authority and Corvette insider Rick Conti indicate strong momentum for bringing back the Grand Sport. Central to this excitement is a new version of GM's Small Block V8, expected to be referred to as the LS6.

      What can we expect?

The forthcoming engine is anticipated to come in two displacements: 5.7 and 6.6 liters. A leaked audio clip hints at its capabilities, showcasing a robust growl and an impressive exhaust sound that has already captured the interest of fans.

The positive news doesn’t stop there. All Grand Sport variants may feature the same widebody kit as the E-Ray, Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X models, moving away from the milder body style of the standard Stingray.

The Grand Sport is expected to launch for the 2027 model year and could become the most popular Corvette in its lineup. This might lead it to outsell even the base Stingray and draw customers away from the current E-Ray and Z06.

Moreover, its pricing is anticipated to be below those two models. The E-Ray starts at $108,600, with the Z06 priced at $120,300. The base Stingray begins around $70,000, giving Chevrolet ample room to strategically price the Grand Sport.

Predictions place it within the $85,000 to $100,000 range, making it an attractive option for buyers seeking more performance without committing fully to the higher-end models.
