The S and SL trims are no longer available for 2026, while the SR trim now features a new Midnight Edition.

Nissan has launched the 2026 Altima, starting at $27,580.

This reflects a $580 increase, and customers can now opt for a new Midnight Edition.

The base S and premium SL trims have been phased out.

Nissan has released a stylish new Sentra, but its flagship sedan is heading into 2026 with several significant updates. Among these are added features and the introduction of the Midnight Edition.

The Midnight Edition is offered on the top-of-the-line Altima SR for an additional $2,000. True to its name, it embraces the blackout concept with a selection of dark design elements.

Notable features include a black grille and a black roof, which can be paired with Tactical Green Metallic, Pearl White TriCoat, or Gray Sky Pearl. For those preferring a classic black look, Super Black paint is also an option.

The theme continues with gloss black 19-inch wheels, dark window trim, and distinct badging. Buyers will also gain additional features such as a moonroof and a dual-zone automatic climate control system.

Regarding the SR trim, it now includes enhanced equipment, such as a wireless smartphone charger and a 12.3-inch infotainment system, replacing the previous standard 8-inch display.

      Streamlined Lineup

While these updates are positive, Nissan has significantly reduced the Altima lineup by discontinuing the S and SL trims. The elimination of the entry-level variant has caused prices to rise from $27,000 to $27,580, an increase of $580, but when comparing the 2025 SV with the 2026 SV, the price hike is a more modest $150.

The SR trim begins at $29,080, reflecting a minor increase of $250, especially considering the added features.

All models, regardless of trim, are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 188 hp (140 kW / 191 PS) and 180 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired with an Xtronic continuously variable transmission, which can be configured with front- or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive option costs $1,400 but reduces output to 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm).
