A unique 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo has quietly changed hands at auction without disclosing its connection to a celebrity, illustrating how the absence of information can sometimes be more impactful than the complete narrative.

The seller did not mention the car's notable celebrity ownership.

Its Paint to Sample Slate Gray finish adds to its allure.

The rare five-speed manual and RWD configuration enhances its appeal to collectors.

A 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6, originally purchased by Jerry Seinfeld, was sold at auction for an impressive $831,000. While that sum is striking enough, the fact that the seller did not reference the car's celebrity history in the listing is even more surprising.

The auction took place on Bring a Trailer, with the listing managed by CabiglioGarage, a California dealer experienced in handling Seinfeld's Porsches, having sold several from his extensive collection. This particular model was acquired directly from Seinfeld in 2019.

Notably distinguishing this 911 Turbo 3.6 is its unique Paint to Sample non-metallic Slate Gray color. It also retains the original 18-inch Speedline wheels, fitted with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

A significant reason for the high sale price is that even at 31 years old, the car has only been driven 2,500 miles (4,023 km). It features a well-appointed interior that includes black leather seats accented with red piping.

The Porsche is powered by a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine, producing 355 hp and 384 lb-ft (521 Nm) of torque. While the latest 911 Turbo S boasts almost double the horsepower, the 964-generation model remains highly sought after. With only 754 units produced, it is much rarer than a contemporary Turbo.

Additionally, it features attributes not found in current models, such as a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. This set-up creates a more traditional driving experience, which enthusiasts increasingly appreciate as newer vehicles trend towards digital interfaces.

Recent auction results for the 911 Turbo 3.6 show this sale is among the most expensive recorded. In recent years, others have sold for between $450,000 and $650,000, with a notable exception being the vehicle featured in the 1995 film Bad Boys, which was auctioned for $1.43 million in early 2022.

The Ford F-150 Lightning EV is no longer in production; the next generation will feature a gas engine backup. Ford has canceled its all-electric pickup truck and will instead introduce an extended-range electric vehicle that can use gasoline. Porsche has many questions to address regarding the future of the 718 Boxster and Cayman. Following the retirement of the last generation, these entry-level sports cars were expected to return as all-electric models. However, Porsche later retracted that promise, leading to reports that the 718 would be revived as a continuation of the earlier 982 series. Nevertheless, the electric 718 is still on the agenda, and Porsche is reportedly planning to retrofit an internal combustion engine into the PPE architecture, which was originally designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

This information about the automaker’s alleged plans comes from Autocar, which mentioned “one of the most radical drivetrain reversals in Porsche’s history” on Sunday. The publication refers to “senior sources” at Weissach, who indicated that while the previous 718 will make a return, it will only serve as a temporary solution until the EVs are available. Once the 982-derived models complete their run, a mid-engine version of the PPE-powered 718 is expected to be launched.

This task does not seem straightforward. Porsche engineers will need to create space for either a four- or six-cylinder engine in a vehicle designed for a load-bearing battery, electric motors, and lacking a transmission tunnel. Although the gasoline variant will be lighter, it won’t replicate the EV’s low center of gravity.

The interior of the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years special edition from a couple of years ago, featuring a silver exterior and burgundy interior, is always a good choice for a Boxster.

According to Autocar’s sources, Porsche plans to address these incompatibilities and shortcomings with a new structural floor, rear bulkhead, and rear subframe.

At least one aspect of reviving the gasoline-powered 718 seems to have become easier for Porsche: emissions. The automaker had previously doubted the future of its established, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine due to Euro 7 regulations and an impending ICE ban. With those proposals now having been diluted or eliminated, that engine can make a comeback.

Provided Porsche makes the necessary adjustments for the cybersecurity law that prematurely ended the 982 series in its home market, there is now a potential path for these sports cars. While this is promising, it’s likely that the company would have preferred to have a definitive plan in place years ago. However, the constantly changing landscape of global auto regulations during the first half of this decade has rendered that impossible.
