Bentley’s New Urban SUV Mimics a Controversial Element Found in Audi's Q3 | Carscoops

New spy photos have emerged, showcasing Bentley's smaller electric SUV with a sleeker exterior, clearly defined lighting, and an interior that appears notably influenced by the Cayenne.

The Bentley SUV has removed its disguise, exposing its production lighting. An interior image reveals a Porsche-style curved OLED display. This electric SUV is built on the VW PPE platform, which it shares with the Cayenne.

Bentley’s forthcoming electric Urban SUV has made another public appearance, this time without the heavy plastic coverings and cartoonish headlights that characterized earlier prototypes, making them resemble a child's drawing of a Bentayga. The winter testing is in progress, and this latest sighting offers the clearest view yet of Crewe's second SUV and its first fully electric model.

The overall design is recognizable from previous spy images, but with the production doors visible and a more streamlined camouflage into an eye-catching new wrap, the silhouette appears much more polished.

We can also see a glimpse of the actual lighting units peeking through, moving away from the fake circular stickers Bentley previously used to mislead us. While they look much more contemporary, they are certainly less striking than the lights on the EXP15 concept.

However, the interior news is equally significant. For the first time, photographers captured a clear picture of the inside, leaving no doubt about its inspiration.

A gracefully curved OLED display, reminiscent of the Flow Display in the Porsche Cayenne, occupies a central position, which is fitting since both vehicles are based on the same Premium Platform Electric.

The technology used is unmistakably from the VW Group, including the multi-function left-hand column stalk first seen on the Audi Q3, along with a right-hand stalk that functions as a transmission selector, akin to VW's ID.4. Nonetheless, the materials used are quintessentially Bentley.

Even at this prototype stage, there's an evident luxurious combination of rich leather, polished metal, and soft hues, including a steering wheel accented in black, red, and chrome.

      **Power and Performance**

Bentley’s CEO Frank Steffen Walliser has assured an impressive battery size alongside the fastest charging capabilities the company has ever provided. Additionally, Bentley's teaser suggests that the Urban SUV will gain 100 miles (160 km) of range in just seven minutes. Expect performance to be equal to or even exceed that of the Cayenne Electric, with outputs ranging from 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW) for the base Porsche in standard mode to 1,039 hp (1,155 PS / 850 kW) for the top-tier Turbo in launch control mode.

It is anticipated that Bentley’s base powertrain will likely be around 604 hp (612 PS / 450 kW), a variant Porsche is expected to introduce in the Cayenne S EV next year.

The final name is still a mystery, though Bentley has filed trademarks for “Mayon” and “Barnato,” making either a potential candidate. What is confirmed is that the Urban SUV will be manufactured in Crewe, officially unveiled at the end of 2026, and delivered to customers in 2027.

Porsche has many questions to address regarding the future of the 718 Boxster and Cayman. Following the retirement of the last generation, these entry-level sports cars were expected to return as all-electric models. However, Porsche later retracted that promise, leading to reports that the 718 would be revived as a continuation of the earlier 982 series. Nevertheless, the electric 718 is still on the agenda, and Porsche is reportedly planning to retrofit an internal combustion engine into the PPE architecture, which was originally designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

This information about the automaker’s alleged plans comes from Autocar, which mentioned “one of the most radical drivetrain reversals in Porsche’s history” on Sunday. The publication refers to “senior sources” at Weissach, who indicated that while the previous 718 will make a return, it will only serve as a temporary solution until the EVs are available. Once the 982-derived models complete their run, a mid-engine version of the PPE-powered 718 is expected to be launched.

This task does not seem straightforward. Porsche engineers will need to create space for either a four- or six-cylinder engine in a vehicle designed for a load-bearing battery, electric motors, and lacking a transmission tunnel. Although the gasoline variant will be lighter, it won’t replicate the EV’s low center of gravity.

The interior of the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years special edition from a couple of years ago, featuring a silver exterior and burgundy interior, is always a good choice for a Boxster.

According to Autocar’s sources, Porsche plans to address these incompatibilities and shortcomings with a new structural floor, rear bulkhead, and rear subframe.

At least one aspect of reviving the gasoline-powered 718 seems to have become easier for Porsche: emissions. The automaker had previously doubted the future of its established, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine due to Euro 7 regulations and an impending ICE ban. With those proposals now having been diluted or eliminated, that engine can make a comeback.

Provided Porsche makes the necessary adjustments for the cybersecurity law that prematurely ended the 982 series in its home market, there is now a potential path for these sports cars. While this is promising, it’s likely that the company would have preferred to have a definitive plan in place years ago. However, the constantly changing landscape of global auto regulations during the first half of this decade has rendered that impossible.
