Police in Ontario stopped a driver who was transporting a significantly large ladder that was more than twice the length of the car.

The driver of a Smart ForTwo received a ticket after attempting to haul an enormous ladder in the compact vehicle, which measures only 98.4 inches long.

The driver was cited for carrying an insecure load, resulting in a $92 fine.

The Ontario Provincial Police have made it clear that size does matter, as they encountered a large load improperly secured in a small car.

We understand if you took that the wrong way, but the department recently reprimanded a driver for a lack of wisdom. Ironically, he was behind the wheel of a Smart ForTwo.

According to widely circulated social media posts, the authorities stopped this car in Carleton Place early yesterday for trying to transport an oversized ladder in such a small vehicle. While the exact height of the ladder isn't mentioned, it’s worth noting that the first-generation ForTwo is only 98.4 inches (2,500 mm) in length.

From the images, it appeared that the ladder was over twice the length of the car, indicating the driver was likely attempting to carry a ladder that was around 18-20 feet long in the back of the vehicle.

To make matters worse, the ladder was pushed up against the dashboard and seemingly secured with some loose rope, leaving the majority of it dangling precariously.

The police were not amused and issued a ticket for the insecure load. According to the Ontario Court of Justice, this violation carries a penalty of $130 CAD ($92). However, if the vehicle had been commercial, the fine would have been $310 CAD ($220).

While the ForTwo has been discontinued, Smart has recently revealed plans for a successor called the #2, expected to launch next year as a fully electric model built on an “all-new proprietary architecture for ultra-compact vehicles.” However, it might be best to leave ladders at home.
