Ford Discovers an Unusual Issue in Only Two Vehicles Manufactured This Year | Carscoops

Ford's record recall trend has taken an unusual turn, as it is now recalling exactly two cars due to a supplier error.

The recall involves one Maverick and one Escape, both of which have mislabelled ECU covers that pose risks of overheating and loss of brake pressure. These vehicles were manufactured in June 2025 before the issue was identified internally.

Ford's recall numbers in the U.S. continue to rise, approaching the 150 mark this year. Fortunately, only two cars are affected this time, which is a modest figure compared to the 230,000 Broncos and nearly 21,000 Escape and Corsair SUVs recalled in the past day.

The official notice highlights a specific 2025 Ford Maverick built on June 25, 2025, and a 2025 Ford Escape made on June 17, 2025. Both are equipped with an electric brake booster that may have the incorrect electronic control unit (ECU) cover, necessitating inspection and repair.

Ford states that using an incorrect ECU cover could lead to internal temperatures surpassing the safe limits for the control unit's components, potentially causing ECU failure that may result in brake pressure loss and affect the car's stability control systems.

In layman's terms, this means the brakes might not function as intended, which is concerning for any driver.

Should either the Maverick or Escape experience an ECU failure, Ford reports that drivers will notice multiple warning lights illuminate on the dashboard.

      Who is to blame?

According to Ford, the error originated from the electric brake booster ECU housing, where covers were improperly installed after being stored in a mislabeled container at the Mexican supplier Aumovio.

The issue was first detected by an employee at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in September. It was subsequently reported to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group, leading to the decision to initiate a recall earlier this month. Importantly, Ford states it has no knowledge of any accidents or injuries connected to this problem.

Owners of the impacted Maverick and Escape models will be informed of the recall between November 24 and November 28. Dealerships have been instructed to replace the entire electric brake booster for both vehicles.
