The company is making a significant investment to greatly enhance hybrid production in the United States.

Toyota is allocating $912 million across five facilities in the country.

This investment aims to boost hybrid manufacturing and create 252 jobs.

As part of this initiative, the production of the Corolla Hybrid will be established in the U.S.

Recently, Toyota revealed plans to invest $10 billion in the U.S., but specifics on the allocation of those funds were not provided. Now, the automaker is clarifying that $912 million will be directed towards increasing hybrid production domestically.

The majority of the funding will be directed to Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia, where the Buffalo plant will receive $453 million to “boost the assembly of four-cylinder hybrid-compatible engines, sixth-generation hybrid transaxles, and rear motor stators.” The expanded production is set to commence in 2027 and is projected to create 80 new jobs.

Furthermore, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, which is the largest plant in the company’s global network, will receive $204.4 million. These funds will support a new machining line for four-cylinder hybrid engines, expected to be operational by 2027, creating 82 new jobs.

In another significant move, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi will obtain $125 million to produce the Corolla Hybrid, marking the first instance of an electrified Corolla being manufactured in the U.S.

Additionally, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee is set to receive $71.4 million along with 33 new jobs. This will allow the Jackson plant to enhance production of hybrid transaxle cases, housings, and engine blocks for hybrid vehicles, with the establishment of three new production lines.

Lastly, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Missouri will be granted $57.1 million for a new cylinder head production line dedicated to hybrid vehicles, generating 57 new jobs and increasing output by over 200,000 cylinder heads per year.

Toyota’s senior vice president of manufacturing operations remarked, “Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are preparing to meet that rising demand.” Kevin Voelkel elaborated, “Toyota’s philosophy is to build where we sell, and by adding more American jobs and investing throughout our U.S. presence, we remain committed to that philosophy.”

Interestingly, quotes were collected from five governors and seven members of Congress commending the automaker, although there was no mention of President Trump or his America First policies, which Akio Toyoda reportedly supports.
