Professional athletes are just like everyone else. I discovered this firsthand when I spoke with Andrew Chafin, a major league pitcher who purchased a beat-up Pontiac Firebird to park on the street by Wrigley Field a few years back. He’s quite the character, and he’s one of several elite athletes who appreciate a well-loved vehicle. New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins is another example; he even uses his social media to provide free car maintenance tips so anyone can learn the essentials.

“MACKanics” is just one of the segments Hollins shares regularly on his social platforms (don’t miss “MackHacks” for advice on flower arranging, cord management, and much more). Most of the videos showcase his own cars—just take a look at that off-white GMT800 Cadillac Escalade. What’s the point of lubricating door hinges, restoring headlights, or recharging the AC on a brand-new Range Rover? It’s not.

Hollins is quite thorough regarding the topics he addresses. He understands that everyday people need to know how to check their tire pressure. He recognizes that not everyone has someone available to teach them these skills directly, so a brief 60-second video can be incredibly helpful. While someone could search on YouTube for a tutorial on repairing a cracked windshield, it might not appear in their feed while they’re scrolling through Instagram or TikTok.

The eight-year NFL veteran is currently having a great season with the Patriots, which makes this story even more impressive. He doesn’t let his success stop him from providing genuinely helpful advice. People appreciate it—even the Bills fans who wish he were still in Buffalo.
